He is trying to be the big bad, but without any clear guidance or role model to cling to - he is forced to build the persona on top of a hollow foundation.

Ren is a tangled ball of rage and confused feelings, which should connect excellently with all of the teenage fans. Kylo Ren is everything I had hoped he would be which is essentially everything Anakin Skywalker should have been during his turn to the darkside, instead of just a guy wearing black eyeshadow. We meet the entire group of new characters within the first few minutes of the movie.

It wasn’t long before I was being overwhelmed by watching things actually happen inside the universe I never thought I’d see this way again. This effect wore off pretty quickly though, and was soon replaced with a sense of awe. I know this is a trademark of Star Wars, but I feel like I didn’t have enough time to adjust to JJ’s version of the galaxy before being introduced to new characters and having blaster fights. However, the film kind of jumps into the action a little too quickly. The opening crawl is perfect, and is more effective than it has been in any film since the original. Abrams, Lawrence Kasdan and this incredible cast have done the impossible by making the best Star Wars film ever. Right? Well… here I stand on the other side of that conundrum, and I can say to you that J.J. How can one film simultaneously usher in a new era of characters while being respectful to the galactic aesthetic prized by its legions of fans? It simply can’t be done.

So, it would seem almost impossible for anything to live up to that much hype. My relationship with Star Wars is not an uncommon one: I have been waiting almost my entire waking life for this movie, as have most of the people born between 19.
